First-aid measures

Inhalation

Move the exposed person to fresh air at once.  Place unconscious person on the side in the recovery position and ensure breathing can take place.

In case of persistent throat irritation or coughing: Seek medical attention and bring these instructions.

Ingestion

Get medical attention if any discomfort continues.  Drink plenty of water.  Never give liquid to an unconscious person. Do not induce vomiting.

Skin contact

Get medical attention if irritation persists after washing.  Remove contaminated clothes and rinse skin thoroughly with water. Wash skin with soap and water.

Eye contact

Immediately rinse with water.  Get medical attention if any discomfort continues.

Fire-fighting measures

Extinguishing media:

Foam,  carbon dioxide or dry powder.

Unsuitable extinguishing media:

Do not use water jet as an extinguisher,  as this will spread the fire.

Special hazards arising from the substance or mixture:

Hazardous combustion products:

During fire,  toxic gases (CO,  CO2) are formed.

Advice for firefighters:

Special Fire Fighting Procedures: No specific fire fighting procedure given.

Protective equipment for fire-fighters: Self contained breathing apparatus and full protective clothing must be worn in case of fire.

Accidental release measures

Personal precautions, protective equipment and emergency procedures:

For personal protection,  exposure controls/personal protection section.

Environmental precautions:

Avoid discharge to the aquatic environment.

Methods and material for containment and cleaning up:

Absorb in vermiculite,  dry sand or earth and place into containers.  Flush away spillage with plenty of water.

Reference to other sections:

Collect and dispose of spillage as indicated in disposal consideration section.

Handling and storage

Precautions for safe handling:

Avoid inhalation of vapours.  Provide good ventilation.  Protect against direct sunlight. Container must be kept tightly closed.

Conditions for safe storage, including any incompatibilities:

Keep containers tightly closed.  Keep away from heat,  sparks and open flame.  Store away from: Acids.  Alkalis. Oxidising material.  Suitable containers: Carbon steel.  Stainless steel.  Plastic lined steel drum.

Storage Class:

Unspecified storage.

Exposure controls / personal protection

Process conditions:

Use engineering controls to reduce air contamination to permissible exposure level.

Engineering measures:

Provide adequate general and local exhaust ventilation.

Respiratory equipment:

No specific recommendation made,  but respiratory protection may still be required under exceptional circumstances when excessive air contamination exists.  Wear full face mask supplied with:  Gas cartridge suitable for organic substances.

Hand protection:

Use protective gloves made of:  Polyvinyl chloride (PVC).  Rubber (natural,  latex).

Eye protection:

Wear approved,  tight fitting safety glasses where splashing is probable.

Hygiene measures:

Wash hands at the end of each work shift and before eating,  smoking and using the toilet.

Environmental Exposure Controls:

Residues and empty containers should be taken care of as hazardous waste according to local and national provisions.

Stability and reactivity

Reaction with:

Oxidising materials.  Acids.  Alkalis.

Chemical stability:

Stable under normal temperature conditions and recommended use.

Possibility of hazardous reactions

Not known.
