There is no data available on the potential of toxicity to algae of Amides, C16 and C18-C20 (even numbered, unsaturated), N,N’-ethylenebis. In order to fulfil the standard information requirements set out in Annex VIII, 9.1.4, in accordance with Annex XI, 1.5, of Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006, read-across from a structurally related substance is conducted.
A detailed justification for the grouping of chemicals and read-across is provided in Sections 6.1 and 13.
The toxicity of Amides, C16 and C18-C20 (even numbered, unsaturated), N,N’-ethylenebis to microorganisms was assessed in a read across approach using data from the structural analogue Amides, C16-C18 (even), N,N'-ethylenebis. The toxicity of the test substance to activated sludge was investigated in one key study according to OECD 209 (Clariant, 1989). Mircoorganisms were exposed for 3 h to nominal concentrations of 100, 180, 320, 580 and 1000 mg/L. The results of this test show no effects on the respiration rate of activated sludge up to the highest nominal test concentration of 1000 mg/L. Therefore, the EC10 and EC50 (3 h) were determined to be > 1000 mg/L. Disturbances in the biodegradation process of activated sludge are not anticipated.
