- Under the conditions of this study, the surface tension of a 1 g/L solution of the test material was determined to be 72.0 ± 0.4 mN/m (corrected value). The test material is not considered to be surface active.
- Executive summary:
The surface tension of the test material was determined in accordance with the standardised guidelines OECD 115 and EU Method A.5 under GLP conditions using the ring method.
A 1 g/L solution was used for testing as the water solubility of the test material was higher than 1 g/L. 0.5016 g of test material was weighed and dissolved in demineralised water up to 500 mL. The test material solution was stirred magnetically for 1 h and 15 min before being tested.
The measurements were performed in a thermo-regulated room at about 20 °C. Several measurements are made at various times. If the variations are lower than or equal to 2 %, the state of equilibrium is considered as reached.
Determination of the calibration factor (b) of the apparatus was carried out with demineralised water. Correction of the mean of the measured values (mN/m) were made by multiplication with the calibration factor Φb. The measured surface tension values were further corrected on the basis of the Harkins-Jordan correction.
Under the conditions of this study, the surface tension of a 1 g/L solution of the test material was determined to be 72.0 ± 0.4 mN/m (corrected value). The test material is not considered to be surface active.
