Reference
Endpoint:
flash point of flammable liquids
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
29 January 2009 - 10 September 2009
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
other: Study conducted in accordance with GLP standards published as OECD Principles on Good Laboratory Practice
Qualifier:
equivalent or similar to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.9 (Flash-Point)
GLP compliance:
yes
Type of method:
equilibrium method closed cup
Flash point:
211 °C
Atm. press.:
101.25 kPa
Remarks on result:
other: ± 2°C

A weight of sample was more appropriate to use in the test procedure instead of volume, due to the viscous nature of the test material. The weight of sample taken in grams is approximately equivalent to the volume of sample taken in millilitres, as estimated from the density value of 0.98 kg/dm3 determined in Harlan Laboratories Ltd project number 2257/0060. The data showed that the variation in the weight of sample taken (caused by the viscous nature of the liquid), was not a significant factor in the determination of the flash point, because all three samples tested at 211 °C caused a flash, while, the two samples tested at 210 °C in addition to the two samples tested at 209 °C, did not cause a flash.

Conclusions:
The flash point of the test material has been determined to be 211 ± 2°C.
Executive summary:

The study was conducted in order to determine the general physico-chemical properties of the test material. The flash point of the test material has been determined to be 211 ± 2°C.

Description of key information
