The effect of the test material on the respiration rate of activated sludge was investigated in accordance with the standardised guideline OECD 209. Activated sludge was exposed to nominal concentrations of the test material of 10, 31.6, 100, 316 and 1000 mg/L with controls and a reference substance (3,5-dichlorophenol) run concurrently for comparison. Under the conditions of the test, the 3 hour EC50 value of the test material was determined to be in excess of 1000 mg/L for activated sludge. The 3 hour NOEC was subsequently determined to be 1000 mg/L.

The study was performed in line with GLP and accepted standardised guidelines with a high standard of reporting. The study was assigned a reliability score of 1 according to the criteria outlined by Klimisch (1997) and considered suitable for assessment as an accurate reflection of the test material.

The available data are considered to be complete and the result determined, 3 h EC50 value ≥1000 mg/L, was taken forward for risk assessment.
