according to guideline
Guideline:
OECD Guideline 103 (Boiling point/boiling range)
Deviations:
no
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.2 (Boiling Temperature)
GLP compliance:
no

yes
Decomp. temp.:
>= 253 °C
Remarks on result:
other: From 253°C the test item shows a boiling and/or thermal decomposition with evaporation of the decomposition products.

The test item Aspartic acid, N-(3-carboxy-1-oxo-sulfopropyl)-N-(C16-18 (even numbered), C18 unsaturated alkyl) tetrasodium salts shows a boiling and/or thermal decomposition at ca. 253 °C (at 1022 mbar) (a decomposition is most likely due to a strong residue in the crucible at ca. 600 °C (see TGA measurements)) according to the definition in the OECD guideline 103 (mean value from repeat determination;1stheating run).

·        254 °C (from first measurement)

·        253 °C (from second measurement)

·        253 °C (from third measurement)

From 253 °C the test item shows a boiling and/or thermal decomposition with evaporation of the decomposition components.

The DSC measurements were confirmed by means of TGA measurements (up to 253 °C the sample shows a weight loss of ca. 8-9 weight%) under the same measuring conditions

Conclusions:
boiling/decomposition at 253°C
Executive summary:

In the Klimisch 1 non-GLP study from Kintrup (2012) the boiling point of Aspartic acid, N-(3-carboxy-1-oxo-sulfopropyl)-N-(C16-18 (even numbered), C18 unsaturated alkyl) tetrasodium salts was determined with the DSC method according to OECD 103 and EU method A.2. The test item shows a boiling and /or decomposition at ca. 253°C (at 1022 mBar) (a decomposition is most likely due to the strong residue in the crucible at ca. 600 °C) according to the definition in the OECD Guideline 103 (mean value from repeat determinations; 1st heating run).

For the risk assessment a boiling point of 253°C will be used.

This information is considered to be relevant and reliable for the further risk assessment.

Additional information

This value was determined at 1022 mbar (102200 Pa). The expected difference of the boiling point from 102200 Pa to101325 Pa is within the measurement accuracy of the method. Therefore, the boiling point as determined at 1022 mbar can be used also for 101 325 Pa.
