Description of key information

A static, 48-hour study in Daphnia magna with the test substance was performed according to OECD guideline 202. The 48-hour LC50 in Daphnia magna was 51.9 mg/L.


 


In order to strengthen the read across from AIBN (CAS 78 -67 -1) to AMBN (CAS 13472 -08 -7) for aquatic toxicity the two substances were tested in parallel on the mobility of Daphnia Magna in Dutch Standard Water (DSW) dilution water. Although valid invertebrate studies exist for both materials. These endpoints were conducted by different laboratories many years apart with different preparation methods and different chemical analysis measurements. A combination of these factors makes comparison difficult. Identical tests in parallel were therefore conducted. Similar behavior can in this way be more reliably demonstrated. The objective of this study was to compare the effects of the tested chemicals on the mobility of the fresh water invertebrate Daphnia magna. Juvenile daphnids of Daphnia magna, Clone 5, less than 24 hours old were exposed to various concentrations of these test substances over a period of 48 hours under defined conditions. The ability of the test animals to swim freely in the test media was assessed at 24 and 48 hours in Dutch Standard Water (DSW). No chemical analysis for quantification of the test substance concentration was performed during the study due to the stability of the test material already being demonstrated in existing tests. A test range up to 259 mg/L (nominal) was used for both substances. For both substances the EC50 was determined to be greater than 259 mg/L, the highest concentration tested.
