Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The granulometry of a representative sample of zinc bis [12-hydroxyoctadecanoate] is summarized as follows (Reichwald, 2009):
D10 = 0.7 µm
D50 = 8.4 µm
D90 = 38.9 µm
Dustiness (Parr, 2012; Grewe, 2012):
total: 193.85 mg/g
MMAD1 = 6.24 µm, GSD1 = 2.09, p1= 0.35
MMAD2 = 32.73 µm, GSD2 = 1.62, p2= 0.65
Estimation of desposited dust fractions in the human respiratory tract:
Head (ET): 55.6%
Tracheobronchial (TB): 0.7%
Pulmonary (PU): 1.7%

Additional information

The D10, D50 and D90 of the particle size distribution of a representative test material are 0.74 µm, 8.44 µm and 38.9 µm, respectively. The total dustiness (airborne fraction) was determined according to method DIN 55992-1:2006 using a modified Heubach dust meter. Total dustiness is 193.85 mg/g. MMAD 1 of the total dustiness fraction is 6.24 µm (GSD 1: 2.09). MMAD 2 of the total dustiness fraction is 32.73 µm (GSD 2: 1.62).

These were used as distribution parameters for the MPPD model enabling an estimation of deposited dust fractions in the human respiratory tract: These fractions were estimated as follows:

Head (ET): 55.6%

Tracheobronchial (TB): 0.7%

Pulmonary (PU): 1.7%
