Description of key information

EC50 measured values: >100mg/l (48hr), >10000mg/l (24hr) respectively for MEG and DEG.  EC50 Value cited in QSAR tool from validation database of 50000mg/l for MEG

Additional information

Measured data is available for two of the three constituents, but not in ideal form to establish an unequivocal value for the EC50. One study is only a limit study for classification purposes and another is only a 24 hour study. QSAR data suggests a very low level of toxicity and that the toxicity decreases with increasing molecular weight of the series. The QSAR does not include a specific class covering acetate salts but predicts that the same neutral organics class can be used as an alternative. The QSAR predicts that sodium acetate will of similar toxicity to MEG (although this is probably an overestimate of toxicity.)  From the data available, it seems reasonable and sufficiently conservative to establish a key parameter of 10000mg/l for the EC50 in daphnia.
