Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Reactive Orange 16 was tested using the OECD 301E screening test. Biodegradation observed at the end of the test was less than 10% therefore reactive orange 16 is not readily biodegradable.

Similar substance 1 was tested using the OECD 302B for inherently biodegradation. At the end of the test period no biodegradation was observed, therefore Reactive Orange 16 is not classified as inherently biodegradable.

The substance used for read across Similar substance 2 of which Reactive Orange 16 is a metabolite, accordingly shows no inherent biodegradation after 28 days (DOC removal) of testing, using the OECD 302B protocol. Adsorption effects (9%) were observed in the test, however the final DOC removal after 28 days was 53%.

However, OECD 309 performed on similar substance 2 shows a DT50 of 2 days (DT90 3 days) with complete mineralisation of the substance and its metabolites by the end of the experiment. Accumulation of the test item and/or its metabolites is not expected in water/sediment compartment.
