Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Explosiveness:
non explosive

Additional information

Explosiveness of Reactive Orange 16 can be waived because based on the outcomes of the DSC analysis the enthalpy of the decomposition was set between 210°C and 400°C and is 270 J/g.

Moreover, one test is available on Reactive orange 16 similar substance 1 by EU method A.14.

The friction apparatus showed no reaction at 36 kg.

The hammer test: 10 kg of weight, 6 attempts, no response.

Thermal sensitivity: no explosion for any of three tests with 2 and 6 ml of diameter hole

The substance results has being not explosive

Justification for classification or non-classification

According to the definition set out in the CLP Regulation (EC 1272/2008) An explosive substance or mixture is a solid or liquid substance or mixture of substances which is in itself capable by chemical reaction of producing gas at such a temperature and pressure and at such a speed as to cause damage to the surroundings. Pyrotechnic substances are included even when they do not evolve gases. Since the screening on Reactive Orange 16 failed to satisfy the requirment for testing and because all tests have been performed in similar substance 1 and are negative the sustance is considered not Explosive.
