Description of key information

Key adsorption data is available for 2,2,3-trimethylbutane. This data is supported by data available for Isoheptane that is being read across to using the category approach explained in the category justification document attached to Section 13 of the dossier.

No studies on adsorption are available for substances belonging to the category C7-C9 aliphatic hydrocarbon solvents. However, category members are not expected to sorb significantly to organic matter in soil, sediment, and wastewater solids based on calculated log Koc values, with 2,2,3-trimethylbutane

having a log koc of 3.01 (Petrorisk) andwith Isoheptane having a log Kocof 2.30 (KOCWIN v2.00, a sub-routine of the computer program EPI Suite™, 2000).

The distribution of isoheptane in the environmental compartments, air, water, soil, and sediment, has been calculated using the PETRORISK Model, version 5.2. Based on the regional scale exposure assessment, the multimedia distribution of Isoheptane is 96% to air, 1.6% to water, 0.65% to soil and 2.1% to sediment.
