Description of key information

Key data is available for 2,2,3-trimethylpentane. This data is supported by read across data available for Isoheptane using the category approach explained in the category justification document attached to Section 13 of the dossier.

In accordance with Annex XI Section 1.3 testing is not scientifically necessary and the endpoint has been fulfilled using QSAR calculations for relevant constituents based on BCFBAF v3.01. Full justifications for this QSAR are presented in 'Attached justification' as well as in Overall remarks, attachments section ''Attached full study report''. In brief these are justified because:

- the results are obtained from a QSAR model whose scientific validity has been established

- petroleum substances fall within the applicability domain of the QSAR model

- results are adequate for the purposes of risk assessment

BCF for 2,2,3 -Trimethylbutane is 109.3 L/kg wet-wt while the BCF for Isoheptane is 129.4 L/kg wet-wt
