First-aid measures

- General advice: When in doubt or if symptoms persist, seek medical attention. Do not give anything by mouth to an unconscious person.
- Following inhalation:
Remove the patient to fresh air and consult a doctor. If breathing is irregular or has stopped, start artificial respiration and call a doctor.
Do not administer anything by mouth.
- Following skin contact:
Remove contaminated clothing and wash the skin thoroughly with soap and water.
- Following eye contact:
Wash with water for 15 minutes and consult an ophthalmologist if necessary.
- Following ingestion:
Accidental ingestion of soluble salts of oxalic acid leads to systemic poisoning by hypocalcaemia (tremor, convulsions, coma, coagulation disorders etc.) and notably acute nephritis with precipitation of insoluble oxalate crystals in the renal tubules.
- Most important symptoms and effects:
Chronic toxicity : Decrease in blood calcium level, renal problems, cardiovascular disorders.
Indication of any immediate medical attention and special treatment needed: Rinse the area in contact with the substance with plenty of water.

Fire-fighting measures

- Suitable extinguishing media: CO2, foam, powder or water spray (depending on the other products present)
- Unsuitable extinguishing media: Water stream which may disperse the product.
- Special hazards arising from the substance or mixture: Thermal decomposition of the products emits toxic gases, carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide.
- Advice for fire fighter:
Protective measures : Avoid contact with the skin. Seal off the area.
Special protective equipment : Self-contained breathing apparatus.

Accidental release measures

- Personal precautions, Protective equipment and emergency procedures:
For non-emergency personnel
Protective equipment : Safety goggles, chemical-resistant gloves to standard EN374-3.
Flame, ventilation, dust : Anti-dust mask type P2P3 (EN143) to be worn.
Emergency procedures : If major quantities are spilt, evacuate personnel, allowing only personnel wearing protective equipment to be present.

For emergency personnel
Suitable clothing : Safety goggles, chemical-resistant gloves to standard EN374-3. Acid protection suits, mask type P2 P3 (EN143).
Unsuitable clothing : No data available

- Environmental precautions:
Avoid discharge into sewers or water courses.
Collect the product and place in plastic bags or drums.
Make drums available for waste disposal in accordance with applicable legislation.
If the product contaminates the water table, rivers or sewers, alert the competent authorities according to regulatory procedures.
- Methods and material for containment and cleaning up:
Spills : Avoid contact with skin and eyes. Seal off the area.
Clean-up procedures : Sweep the product up and place the waste in a leak-tight container and remove to an appropriate waste disposal centre.
Clean with water and do not use solvents or wood shavings.

Handling and storage

- Precautions for safe handling:
Handle in well-ventilated areas.
Capture any dust if necessary.

No smoking. Prohibit access to unauthorised persons.
Avoid contact with skin and eyes.

Hygiene : Wash hands after handling.
Smoking, eating and drinking are prohibited on the premises in which the substance is used.

- Conditions for safe storage, including any incompatibilities:
Keep the container tightly closed in a dry, well-ventilated place
Recommended materials: polyethylene.

Specific end use(s) : For all specific uses, consult the supplier.

Install equipment to ensure compliance with the exposure limit values.

2. Skin protection
Hand protection : Chemical-resistant protective gloves (EN374-3)
Body protection : Impermeable, body-covering clothing.
Protective clothing worn on the body and hands, to be made of recommended materials: PVC, neoprene, etc.

3. Eye protection
Wear safety goggles for all industrial operations.

4. Respiratory protection : In case of fumes, decomposition or insufficient ventilation, appropriate breathing equipment must be worn: independent breathing mask or at least a P2 or P3-type cartridge mask as per standard EN143.
