Guinea-pigs were sensitised with NiSO4, K2Cr2O7 and TiCl4.

ZrCl4 did not cause any sensitisation response under these experimental conditions.

A sensitive mouse lymph node assay also determined NiSO4 and K2Cr2O7 as a sensitisers. In the SLNA, TiCl4 caused mild lymph node responses, but was classified as a non-sensitizer as well as ZrCl4.

Although the methods are not well-described, the research demonstrarted the potential sensitisation os some metal salts and showed absence of sensitisation by zirconium salts
Sulphates are not considred sensitisingin their own right, so this research on the soluble chloride is considered a valid substitute
