Description of key information

Based on the results, it was concluded that the test item, p-phenylene diisocyanate is biodegradable but not readily biodegradable as 10.46% mean degradation was achieved at the end of test which is less than 60% pass level in 10-day window period within the 28-d period of the test.

The adsorption coefficient of Paraphenylene diisocyanate (PPDI) could not be estimated using the HPLC method because the test item reacts with water from the mobile phase.

An analytical method to determine the concentration of the intact test item in the test samples could not be developed. The test item reacts immediately and completely with water when it comes into contact with aqueous matrices. Therefore, the hydrolysis rate could not be determined by following the reaction products either.  A full supporting study is appended for clarification.
