Data platform availability banner - registered substances factsheets

Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The hazard assessment is based on the data currently available. New studies with the registered substance and/or other member substances of the glycol esters category will be conducted in the future. The finalised studies will be included in the technical dossier as soon as they become available and the hazard assessment will be re-evaluated accordingly.

For further details, please refer to the category concept document attached to the category object (linked under IUCLID section 0.2) showing an overview of the strategy for all substances within the glycol esters category.

Data on the toxicity of propylene dinonanoate (CAS 41395-83-9) to microorganisms are not available. Therefore, read-across to the structurally related source substance butylene glycol dicaprylate / dicaprate (CAS 853947-59-8) was performed in accordance with Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 Annex XI, 1.5. The source substance is characterized by similar fatty acid chain lengths as well as alcohol components and is therefore considered as a suitable representative for the assessment of the short-term toxicity of the target substance to aquatic invertebrates.

The study with the source substance butylene glycol dicaprylate / dicaprate (CAS 853947-59-8) was performed according to the EU Method C.11 (GLP) using domestic activated sludge as inoculum (1997). Five concentrations up to a maximum of 1099 mg/L were tested. After 3 h of incubation, no inhibition of the respiration rate was observed resulting in an EC10/50 > 1099 mg/L.

Furthermore the studies on the biodegradability of the substance according to internationally accepted guideline criteria showed that sewage treatment plant microorganisms biodegrade rapidly the substance. This supports the results of the read across substance.

Based on the results from a structurally related read-across substance (in accordance to Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 Annex XI, 1.5), it can be concluded that propylene dinonanoate (CAS 41395-83-9) will not exhibit effects on the respiration rate of microorganisms.
