Biodegradation

Octadecanoic acid, 9(or 10)-sulfo-, potassium salt (CAS-No. 67968-63-2) is readily biodegradable.

This conclusion is based on a reliable OECD 301B test showing 66 % ultimate degradation (78 % based on DOC-removal) after 28 days, However, under the test conditions applied the bioavailability of the test substance was limited resulting in a degradation kinetic, that has not reached the plateau phase after 28 days. As the substance is an UVCB, the 10d window is not applied. Therefore, based on the result of 66 % ultimate degradation (78 % based on DOC-removal) after 28 days, the substance is considered to be readily biodegradable.

This conclusion is further supported by the fact that the substance is also easily biodegraded under anaerobic conditions.
