Description of key information

In GLP guideline studies conducted according to OECD 201, 202, and 203 on freshwater algae (Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata), invertebrates (Daphnia magna), and fish (Pimephales promelas), the test substance did not cause toxicity up to the limit dose of 100 mg/L, thus resulting in an LC/EC50 of >100 mg/L in each of the studies. In a GLP OECD 209 guideline study designed to measure the respiration rate of an predominately domestic activated sludge fed with a standard amount of synthetic sewage feed, the EC20 and EC50 of the test substance was determined to be >1000 mg/L and can therefore be considered to not inhibit activated sludge if discharged to sewage treatment plants. Given these results, the substance does not meet the criteria for classification as environmentally hazardous and testing of chronic toxicity to aquatic organisms appears unnecessary.
