Photochemical reaction of o-chloronitrobenzene in air free from nitrogen oxides

- irradiation results in chloronitrophenols (2-chloro-6-nitrophenol and 2-chloro-4-nitrophenol)

- the reaction never produced the directly hydroxylated derivatives

Photochemical reaction of o-chloronitrobenzene in nitrogen free from nitrogen oxides

- irradiation results in chlorophenols (o-Chlorophenol)

- the nitro group in the test compound was converted to the hydroxyl group

For both tests, in air free from nitrogen oxides as well as in nitrogen free from nitrogen oxides the rate of disappearance of o-Chloronitrobenzene was significantly higher in quartz vessels than in glass vessels.

Rate of disappearance of o-Chloronitrobenzene:

- air free from nitrogen oxides / glass vessel: 4.3 %

- air free from nitrogen oxides / quartz vessel: 66 %

- nitrogen free from nitrogen oxides / glass vessel: 9.5 %

- nitrogen free from nitrogen oxides / quartz vessel: 93%
