The density of test substanceReaction mass of Cardanol diene and Cardanol monoene and Cardanol triene (CAS No.37330-39-5) was determined following OECD guideline OECD 109 according to pycnometer method. The density of the test substance was found to be0.9376 gm/cm3at 20 °C and 981.6 hPa.

Particle Size distribution

In accordance with Column 2 of Annex VII of the REACH regulation this testing is scientifically unjustified since the chemical is a liquid.

Vapour Pressure

The estimated vapour pressure of Reaction mass of Cardanol diene and Cardanol monoene and Cardanol triene  using the EPA modified grain method is found to be 0.00000014742 mmHg at 25 degree celcius. This is equivalent to 0.0000195 Pascal

Partition coefficient

The partition Coefficient n-octanol/water of Reaction mass of Cardanol diene and Cardanol monoene and Cardanol triene was determined by the Reverse Phase High Performance

Liquid Chromatographic method according to OECD Guideline No. 117 for testing of Chemicals. The reference substances were chosen according to

functional similarity with the test substance and calibration graph was prepared . The reference substances were Triphenylamine Toluene, Ethylbenzene, n-

Butylbenzene, Naphthalene having Pow value ranging from 2.7 to 5.7 The Log Pow value was determined to be 1.394 ± 0.005 at 25°C.

On the basis of log Pow value it can be concluded that test chemical is hydrophilic in nature.

Water Solubility

The water solubility determination of test substanceReaction mass of Cardanol diene and Cardanol monoene and Cardanol triene(CAS No; 37330-39-5) was determined by HPLC method. The solubility of 37330-39-5 in water was found to be1.40 mg/l at250C.

Solubility in organic solvents

The solubility determination of test substanceReaction mass of Cardanol diene and Cardanol monoene and Cardanol triene( CAS No. 37330-39-5) in various organic solvents was done with acetone, acetonitrile, methanol, ethanol, toluene and Dimethylformamide (DMF). The solubility of the test substance in acetone, acetonitrile, toluene and DMF was found to be greater than 1000 g/l whereas the solubility value in methanol and ethanol was found to be in the range of 200 – 1000g/l respectively at 24.2 °C.

.

Surface tension

In accordance with column 2 of Annex VII of the REACH regulation, this end point was considered for waiver since surface activity is a not a desired property of the material.

Flash point

The flash point determination of test substanceReaction mass of Cardanol diene and Cardanol monoene and Cardanol triene (CAS No. 37330-39-5) was done as per the test guideline OECD 103. The method is closed cup method using Pensky Martin’s Flash Point Apparatus. The flashpoint of the test substance was found to be 110°C at 981.1 hPa

Auto flammability

Reaction mass of Cardanol diene and Cardanol monoene and Cardanol triene  did not catch fire on being exposed to air at room temperature of 23 deg C and atmospheric pressure of 995 hPa. This indicates that Cardanol is not auto-flammable.

Flammability

From the experimental values of flammability, Reaction mass of Cardanol diene and Cardanol monoene and Cardanol triene  ignited when the flame of bunsen burner having temperature of 950 degC was brought in contact with it. Thus it can be concluded that Reaction mass of Cardanol diene and Cardanol monoene and Cardanol triene  is flammable only at high temperature of about 950 degC. However since such high temperatures are not found under normal circumstances of transportation and use,Reaction mass of Cardanol diene and Cardanol monoene and Cardanol triene  was considered non-flammable for chemical safety assessment.

Explosiveness

Reaction mass of Cardanol diene and Cardanol monoene and Cardanol triene does not possess explosive properties. The reason for this is there are no chemical groups associated with explosive properties in Reaction mass of Cardanol diene and Cardanol monoene and Cardanol triene. Thus cardanol is considered non-explosive for classification purposes.

Oxidising Property

Reaction mass of Cardanol diene and Cardanol monoene and Cardanol triene is considered to be non-oxidising since the substance is incapable of reacting exothermically with combustible materials, based on the chemical structure. The chemical is organic in nature not containing halogen atoms and the oxygen present is not chemically bonded to nitrogen or oxygen.

 pH

The pH determination of test substance Reaction mass of Cardanol diene and Cardanol monoene and Cardanol triene(CAS No. 37330-39-5) was done as per the test guideline OECD 122. The pH of the test solution was determined with the help of pH meter. The pH was found to be 6.7 at 25 °C. Thus 1 % solution of cardanol can be considered to be near neutral in nature.
