Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
UN Manual of Tests and Criteria: Test O.1 (Test for oxidizing solids)
Deviations:
yes
Remarks:
: Minor change from guideline on the electrical resistance of the ignition wire.
GLP compliance:
yes (incl. QA statement)
Contact with:
powdered cellulose
Duration of test (contact time):
3 min
Sample tested:
4:1 sample-to-cellulose ratio
Parameter:
mean burning time
Result:
0 s
Remarks on result:
mixture does not ignite and burn
Remarks:
Tested 5 times
Sample tested:
1:1 sample-to-cellulose ratio
Parameter:
mean burning time
Result:
255 s
Sample tested:
reference: 3:7 mixture potassium bromate + cellulose
Parameter:
mean burning time
Result:
111 s

The 4:1 did not ignite and 1:1 test item:cellulose mixtures exhibited mean burning time greater than that of the 3:7 potassium bromate to cellulose mixture This indicates that the test item is not an oxidizing solid.

Interpretation of results:
GHS criteria not met
Conclusions:
The test results indicated that the test item is not an oxidizing solid under the conditions of the test.

Description of key information

The oxidizing properties of the test item were determined by comparing the burning characteristics of mixtures of test item and dry fibrous cellulose (in ratios of 1:1 and 4:1 by mass) with a mixture of potassium bromate and dry fibrous cellulose (in ratio of 3:7 by mass). Testing complied with Test O.1 specified in the United Nations Recommendations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods Manual of Tests and Criteria, fifth revised edition 2009 and Section 2.14 Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 of 16 December 2008 on Classification, Labelling and Packaging of Substances and Mixtures.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Oxidising properties:
non oxidising
