Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Skin sensitisation

Endpoint conclusion
Endpoint conclusion:
no adverse effect observed (not sensitising)
Additional information:

There is no sensitisation data available on the substance 3,6,9,12-tetraoxahexadecan-1-ol. However, there is data available on the closely related analogue 2 -(2 -butoxyethoxy)ethanol. A study was carried out with the latter which broadly followed the requirements of a guideline M&K skin sensitisation study. No adverse skin sensitisation reactions were observed. Neither this substance nor the target substance triggered alerts for possible skin sensitisaiton in the Toxtree QSAR, a regult that is seen with all glycol ethers. Because of the structural similarity of these the source and target substances and the fact that sensitisation is not an important characteristic of any of this family of substances, the result for DEGBE can be reliably extrapolated to the substance 3,6,9,12-tetraoxahexadecan-1-ol.

Short description of key information:

Not sensitising

Justification for classification or non-classification

The substance has no sensitising properties and does not warrant classification.
