There are no reliable aquatic toxicity data available for 3-[tris(acetoxy)silyl]propyl methacrylate (CAS 51772-85-1), therefore good quality data for the structurally-related substance, 3-trimethoxysilylpropyl methacrylate (CAS 2530-85-0), have been read across. Reliable acute toxicity tests results are available for freshwater fish (Brachydanio rerio), invertebrates (Daphnia magna) and algae (Scenedesmus subspicatus) for 3-trimethoxysilylpropyl methacrylate. The relevant short-term values are:

Fish: LC50 (96 h): >100 mg/l and >1042 mg/l; NOEC: ≥100 mg/l and ≥1042 mg/l

Daphnia: EC50 (48 h): >100 mg/ l and >876 mg/l; NOEC: ≥100 mg/l and ≥876 mg/l

Algae: EC50 (72 h): >100 mg/l and >536 mg/l; NOEC: ≥100 mg/l and 322 mg/l

An activated sludge respiration inhibition 3 hour EC50 value of >1000 mg/l and NOEC value of ≥1000 mg/l (nominal) were determined in a reliable study.

The rapid hydrolysis of 3-trimethoxysilylpropyl methacrylate (half-life 1.7 h at pH 7 and 20-25 °C) means it is likely that the test organisms in each test were exposed primarily to the hydrolysis products, 3-(trihydroxysilyl)propyl methacrylate and methanol. The activated sludge respiration inhibition has a 3 hour duration, and so test organisms may have had more exposure to the parent substance. As the parent substance has a higher log Kowvalue, read-across of this result is considered to reflect a worst case.
