Estimation Programs Interface Suite (EPI suite, 2018) was run to predict the biodegradation potential of the test compound  2,2'-[(3,3'-dimethyl[1,1'-biphenyl]-4,4'-diyl)bis(azo)]bis[4-nonylphenol] (CAS no. 67990 -27 -6) in the presence of mixed populations of environmental microorganisms. The biodegradability of the substance was calculated using seven different models such as Linear Model, Non-Linear Model, Ultimate Biodegradation Timeframe, Primary Biodegradation Timeframe, MITI Linear Model, MITI Non-Linear Model and Anaerobic Model (called as Biowin 1-7, respectively) of the BIOWIN v4.10 software. The results indicate that chemical 2,2'-[(3,3'-dimethyl[1,1'-biphenyl]-4,4'-diyl)bis(azo)]bis[4-nonylphenol]is expected to be not readily biodegradable.

Predicted data study for target chemical 2,2'-[(3,3'-dimethyl[1,1'-biphenyl]-4,4'-diyl)bis(azo)]bis[4-nonylphenol] (CAS no. 67990 -27 -6) and experimental studies to support the prediction of target chemical have been reviewed for biodegradation endpoint and their results are summarized below.

 

First study was predicted data study in this study the Estimation Programs Interface Suite (EPI suite, 2018) was run to predict the biodegradation potential of the test compound  2,2'-[(3,3'-dimethyl[1,1'-biphenyl]-4,4'-diyl)bis(azo)]bis[4-nonylphenol] (CAS no. 67990 -27 -6) in the presence of mixed populations of environmental microorganisms. The biodegradability of the substance was calculated using seven different models such as Linear Model, Non-Linear Model, Ultimate Biodegradation Timeframe, Primary Biodegradation Timeframe, MITI Linear Model, MITI Non-Linear Model and Anaerobic Model (called as Biowin 1-7, respectively) of the BIOWIN v4.10 software. Next study was experimental study and it is reviewed from authoritative database in this study the Biodegradation experiment was carried out of test chemical by taking activated sludge as inoculums at 30 mg/L concentration for 28 days. Biodegradation was analyzed by using two parameters namely O2 consumption (BOD and test material analysis (LS/MS). The initial concentration of test chemical was 100 mg/L. After 28 days of incubation Percent biodegradation of test chemical was observed to be 0.0 % by O2 consumption (BOD) parameter and 6.0 % by test material analysis (LS/MS) parameter in 28 days. On the basis of percent degradability value it is concluded that test chemical is not readily biodegradable.

 

Further to support predicted data study of target chemical one more experimental study was reviewed from authoritative database in this study the test chemical was subjected to biodegradation test by taking sludge as inoculums at 30 mg/L concentration. Biodegradation was analysed by using BOD parameter. The initial concentration of test chemical was 100 mg/L. After 2 weeks (14 days) test chemical showed 0 % biodegradability by BOD parameter and by taking activated sludge as inoculums in 14 days so it is concluded that test chemical is not readily biodegradable.

 

By considering results of all above mentioned studies for target chemical 2,2'-[(3,3'-dimethyl[1,1'-biphenyl]-4,4'-diyl)bis(azo)]bis[4-nonylphenol] (CAS no. 67990 -27 -6) and it structurally similar read across chemical it can be concluded that test chemical 2,2'-[(3,3'-dimethyl[1,1'-biphenyl]-4,4'-diyl)bis(azo)]bis[4-nonylphenol] is expected to be not readily biodegradable in nature.
