In the investigation of self-ignition in the Grewer Oven for the pure test item an endothermic effect could be observed in the temperature range of 100 – 150 °C, which can be assigned to a drying of the test item. A small exothermic process was detected starting at 175 °C. This self-heating did not lead to a significant temperature increase (15 °C above the corresponding temperature of the reference material). During the decomposition process, the test item expanded, welled out of the basket and a black residue remained after the test.

For the test item in mixture with Kieselguhr an endothermic effect could be observed in the temperature range of 100 – 130 °C, which can be assigned to a drying of the test item. A small exothermic effect was detected starting at 175 °C, which also did not lead to a significant temperature increase (15 °C above the corresponding temperature of the reference material). A second exothermic effect was detected starting at 310 °C, which only lead to a temperature increase of approx. 10 °C above the corresponding temperature of the reference material. In this test, the test item also expanded, welled out of the basket.

The pure test item Adenosine-5'-monophosphate (AMP) (CAS no. 61-19-8) indicated a self-heating at atmospheric pressure starting at a temperature of 175 °C. This self-heating process did not lead to a significant temperature increase, since the test item expanded and welled out of the wire basket.
On the basis of the results of the tests on the self-ignition in the Grewer Oven according to the UN Recommendations on the TRANSPORT OF DANGEROUS GOODS: Manual of Tests and Criteria, Appendix 6 Division 4.2, a classification of the test item as self-heating substance cannot be excluded. Further tests have to be performed for the classification.
