Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Conclusion on classification

Classification relevant information

Degradation:

- Biodegradation: inherently biodegradable (57% after 28 d and 65% after 60 d, OECD 301F) based on read across from CAS 18643-08-8

- Hydrolysis: half-life approx. 9.3 h at 20-25 °C and pH 7 (QSAR)

Bioaccumulation:

- Trimethoxyoctadecylsilane: not relevant due to fast hydrolysis

- Silanol hydrolysis product: Octadecylsilanetriol:

Log Kow = 6.0 at 20°C (QSAR)

BCF = 174 – 478.8 (EPISuite, QSAR)

Aquatic acute toxicity:

- Fish: no data available

- Aquatic invertebrates: EL50 (48 h) > 100 mg/L (nominal, OECD 202, Daphnia magna) based on read across from CAS 16415-12-6

- Algae/aquatic plant: ErC50 (72 h) >31.8 mg/L (nominal, methanol as solvent) and > 29.5 mg/L (nominal, TBA as solvent), (OECD 201, Scenedesmus subspicatus) based on read across from CAS 16415-12-6

Aquatic chronic toxicity:

- Fish: no data available

- Aquatic invertebrates: NOEC (21 d) ≥ 10 mg/L (nominal, OECD 211, Daphnia magna) based on read across from CAS 16415-12-6

- Algae/aquatic plant: ErC10 (72 h) ≥ 31.8 mg/L (nominal, methanol as solvent) and 20.91 mg/L (nominal, TBA as solvent), (OECD 201, Scenedesmus subspicatus) based on read across from CAS 16415-12-6

Classification according to CLP

Trimethoxyoctadecylsilane (CAS 3069-42-9) hydrolyses to octadecylsilanetriol and methanol. The silanol hydrolysis product is not considered rapidly degradable and the calculated BCF is < 500 L/kg. Acute toxicity data are available for two trophic levels (aquatic invertebrates and algae). No effects causing 50% mortality to aquatic invertebrates (EL50) or 50% inhibition to growth rate (ErC50) for aquatic algae were detected up to the limit of water solubility. Chronic aquatic toxicity data indicate no hazard within the range of water solubility. Therefore, trimethoxyoctadecylsilane (CAS 3069-42-9) is not classified and labeled according to the consolidated version of Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 and further amendments (ATPs).
