Two studies are available in order to determine the acute toxicity of the substances belonging to the stilbene fluorescent whitening agents category to terrestrial macroorganisms. The EC50 value in Eisenia foetida according to OECD 207 was greater than 1000 mg/kg dry weight (CAS 16090-02-1, CIBA - GEIGY 1991). This result was substantiated by a limit test that determined a LC50 value greater than 5000 mg/kg dry weight (CAS 16090-02-1, Solvias 1999).

Furthermore, the acute aquatic toxicity assessment covering all trophic levels and a long term study on daphnids reveal neither a need to classify the substances belonging to the category as dangerous for the environment, nor are they PBT or vPvB substances. Based on these data it is concluded that the risk to terrestrial organisms is expected to be low.

Therefore, toxicity studies on soil microorganisms, on terrestrial plants and on terrestrial arthropods are not provided.
