Toxicity to fish

Read-across from Dimethyl phenyl ethyl carbinol, the 24, 48, 72h and 96h LC50 value: 69.57 mg/L (nominal) (95% conf. limits: 53.02 -96.89 mg/L).

Toxicity to aquatic invertebrates

Acute toxicity of Dimethyl Benzyl Carbinol on Daphnia magna was assessed in an acute immobilisation test, over an exposure period of 48 hours in a static test system. Under the conditions of this Daphnia magna acute immobilisation study, the observed endpoints for the effect of Dimethyl Benzyl Carbinol were the followings:

The 24h and 48h EC50 values were >100 mg/L (nominal). The 48h EC100 value was > 100 mg/L (nominal). The 48h NOEC and LOEC were 100 mg/L (nominal) and >100 mg/L (nominal), respectively.

Toxicity to algae

The effect of Dimethyl Benzyl Carbinol test item was assessed on algal growth using the unicellular green alga Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata, over an exposure period of 72 hours. Under the conditions of this algal growth inhibition test the calculated endpoints for the effect of Dimethyl Benzyl Carbinol were the follwing:

The 72h EC50 value (biomass) was >100 mg/L (nominal), the 72h EC50 value (growth rate) was >100 mg/L (nominal), the 72h EC50 value (yield) was >100 mg/L (nominal). The 72h NOEC and LOEC values were 100 mg/L(nominal) and >100 mg/L(nominal), respectively.

Toxicity to micro-organisms

Read-across from Dimethyl phenyl carbinol, the 3 -hour EC50 value of was determined to be in the range of 100 to 1000 mg/L (708.95 mg/L was calculated, with 95% confidence limits of 610.88- 822.77 mg/L).
