An algal study with Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata and an OECD 209 activated sludge inhibition test were available for tripropylene glycol n-butyl ether highers (TPnB-H). The 72 -hr EL10 for algal growth rate was 93.7 mg/L followed by the EL20 and EL50 at 129 and 333 mg/L, respectively. In the sludge inhibition test, the resulting EC50 vlaue was determined to be greater than 1,000 mg/L, the highest concentration tested.

Acute toxicity to aquatic invertebrates and fish was determined using a read-across approach to tripropylene glycol n-butyl ether (TPnB) and SYNALOX. The 48 hr NOEC value for Daphnia magna exposed to TPnB was 1000 mg/L, while the 48 hr EL50 value in a study with SYNALOX*100 -20B was report as >100 mg/L, which was the highest concentration tested. The 96 hr LC50 value for Poecillia reticulata exposed to TPnB was 564 mg/L, while the 96 hr LC50 value for zebrafish in a study with SYNALOX*100 -50B was report as >104 mg/L. The molecular weights for these three read across substances ranges from 248 (TPnB) to 750 for SYNALOX*100 -20B and 1375 for SYNALOX*100 -50B. The chemical structure and molecular weight of TPnB highers is closer to TPnB, therefore the TPnB toxicity endpoints were considered to be more accurate for read across.
