Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Calculation with BCFBAF v3.00 (EPIWIN software by US-EPA): 70.79 L/kg wet-wt, strong bioaccumulation is not expected.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

BCF (aquatic species):
70.79 L/kg ww

Additional information

Benzenesulfonic acid, mono-C20-24 (even)-sec-alkyl derivs., para-, sodium salts (generic name: C20 -24 sodium sulfonate) has a predicted Bioconcentration Factor (BCF) of 70.79 L/kg (Chemservice S.A., 2015c) and an experimental determined partition coefficient (logPow) of > 7 at 25 °C (Tait and Laud, 2000). Thus, a strong bioaccumulation in aquatic biota is not expected. Only limited bioaccumulation is assumed for compounds with a logPow < 4.5 or > 6 (based on ECHA REACH Guidance R.11 PBT Assessment). Concerning logPow exceeding 6, a gradual decrease of the Bioconcentration Factor (BCF) is observed practically. Examples are discussed in a literature study of the German Federal Environment Agency (Umweltbundesamt (Ed.): Comparative analysis of estimated and measured BCF data (OECD 305). Report No. (UBA-FB) 001435/E, ISSN: 1862-404,Dessau, March 2011).
