Description of key information

Based on the results of the read across study, the 3h EC50 and NOEC of the test substance were determined to be >1000 mg/L and 1000 mg/L, respectively.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for microorganisms:
1 000 mg/L
EC10 or NOEC for microorganisms:
1 000 mg/L

Additional information

A study was conducted to determine the toxicity of the read across substance, 1-octadecanol, phosphate, potassium salt (i.e., mono- and di- C18 PSE, K+) to microorganisms according OECD guideline 209 and EU Method C.11 (Activated Sludge, Respiration Inhibition Test), in compliance with GLP. Activated sludge of a predominantly domestic sewage was exposed to the test substance at nominal concentrations of 0, 1.4, 10.6, 99.4 and 1000 mg/L for 3 h. A positive control (3,5 -dichlorophenol) was included in the experiment. At the highest test substance concentration 1000 mg/L, no statistically significant inhibition could be observed. Therefore, based on the results of the read across study, the 3h EC50 and NOEC of the test substance were determined to be >1000 mg/L and 1000 mg/L, respectively (Muckle, 2012).
