In a 4-year epidemological investigation finished in 1983, 247 out of 621  employees included in the study (working mainly in the chemical and  
automobile-producing industry) were found to suffer from  isocyanate-related diseases (type of compound not specified). In 290  cases, the 
respiratory system was affected, in some cases, evidence for  hypersensitivity pneumonitis was obtained.
