Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

No experimental data is available for L-methionine. The effect of D,L-methionine on the growth of Pseudomonas putida was determined in a GLP study (89 -0130 -DGO) with an EC50 of 10000 mg/l. Dawson and Jenkins (1950) showed that methionine is rapidly oxidized by activated sludge and showed no toxic effects to the microorganisms of activated sludge.

Read-across of D,L-methionine to L-methionine was used due to the structural similarities and the physicochemical similarities of the enantiomers. Further, both enantiomers are used by microorganisms as carbon source.
