Description of key information

In the saturated solution with a nominal loading rate of 1.00 mL/L of the test substance, no effects on Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata after 72 h exposure have been observed in a guideline test according to OECD201. The EL50 (72 h) is above 1.00 mL/L and the NOEL is 1.00 mL/L based on yield and growth rate.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC10 or NOEC for freshwater algae:
0.946 g/L

Additional information

The toxicity of the test substance to the unicellular freshwater green alga Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata has been determined according to the guideline OECD 201 over a period of 72 hours. Due to the low water solubility, a saturated solution of the test substance with a nominal loading rate of 1 mL/L (corresponding to an initial nominal concentration of 0.946 g/L) has been prepared in a slow stirring procedure in accordance to OECD Series No.23 (2000). The concentrations of the test substance have analytically verified via LC-MS/MS at the start and end of exposure. The measure concentrations were below the limit of quantification (LOQ=6 µg/L). Therefore, the effect values were based on the nominal loading of the test substance in accordance to OECD Series No.23 (2000).

In the saturated solution with a nominal loading of 1.00 mL/L of the test substance, no effects on Pseudokirchneriel/a subcapitata were observed. The nominal effect values for inhibition of growth rate (ErL50) and yield (EyL50) after 72 hours were >1.00 mL/L, respectively. The nominal NOEL-values for inhibition of growth rate and yield after 72 hours were 1.00 mL/L, respectively.
