Sampling and analysis

Analytical monitoring:
yes
Details on sampling:
Test solutions were sampled for BPA-Tars concentration determination at 0 and 96 hr.

Test solutions

Vehicle:
yes
Details on test solutions:
Required amounts of BPA-Tars were added to 5 litres of dilution water and treated for one hour in an ultrasonic bath and afterwards stirred for 24 h on magnetic stirrers. The nominal concentrations were: 0, 6.25, 12.5, 25, 50 and 100 mg/L.

Test organisms

Test organisms (species):
Danio rerio (previous name: Brachydanio rerio)
Details on test organisms:
Zebra fish (Danio rerio) were acquyired from Interaquaristik (Germany). The fish were maintained at 20-24 °C with a dissolved oxygen content of > 5 mg/L and feed commercial fish food, daily. upto 24 h prior to test initiation.

Applicant's summary and conclusion

Validity criteria fulfilled:
yes
Conclusions:
BPA-Tars was demonstrated to have an acute LC50 for the Zebrafish of 4.95 mg/L from 24 to 96 hr of exposure. This finding suggest that BPA-Tars requires Classification and Labeling as Toxic to aquatic organisms.
Executive summary:

2 -Acetone polymer with phenol (BPA-Tars) was assessed for acute toxicity to the Zebrafish by an O.E.C.D. Testing Guideline No. 203 study with GLP comlpliance. BPA-Tars was demonstrated to have an acute LC50 for the Zebrafish of 4.95 mg/L from 24 to 96 hr of exposure. This finding suggest that BPA-Tars requires Classification and Labeling as Toxic to aquatic organisms.
