The determination of the surface tension of an aqueous solution of RS-Pantolactone was based on the OECD Guideline No. 115:Surface Tension of Aqueous Solutions(1995) and on the EEC Directive 92/69,EEC Publication No. L383, December 1992 and theCouncil Regulation (EC) No. 440/2008, 30 May 2008,Part A, Methods for the determination of physico-chemical properties, A.5Surface tension.

The calibration factor Fbwas determined to be 1.0399 for double distilled water . The data are part o fHarlan Laboratories instruments files and a copy is presented in the raw data of thepresent study.

Applicant's summary and conclusion

Conclusions:
Based on the criteria as outlined in the EEC Guideline and the results of this study, RS-Pantolactone has to be considered as a not surface active substance.
Executive summary:

The surface tension of RS-Pantolactone in water (at a concentration of about 0.1%) was determined to be

72.3 mN/m at 19.6 °C ± 0.1 °C.

Based on the criteria as outlined in the EEC Guideline and the results of this study, RS-Pantolactone has to be considered as a not surface active substance.
