Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Short-term aquatic toxicity:

LAB assessed by ECB (1997) and OECD (2002) dossiers evidenced no acute toxicity to aquatic organisms.

EPIsuite’s ECOSAR indicates that for neutral organics, if the log Kow is greater than 5, no toxic effects in aquatic organisms are predicted at saturation (due to the low water solubility). This is the case for BAB and all of its components.

The result of one study in mussels (publication) has determined a EC20 (72h) of 0.007 mg/L, showing that BAB is toxic to this specie.

Long-term aquatic toxicity:

EPIsuite’s ECOSAR indicates that for neutral organics, if the log Kow is greater than 8.0, no chronic toxicity effects are predicted at saturation (due to the very low water solubility). This is the case for most of the BAB components and notably the main, C12-substituted fraction.

BAB was assessed for long-term toxicity to mussels as described in a publication from Scarlett et al (2008). In the test conditions it was not possible to determine a LC10 or NOEC, but is was proved that the substance is toxic to this specie.
