Slag leachates fulfil the criteria of the German Federal Drinking Water Regulation. Compared with stamdard sea water or mineral water, the requirements for slag leachates are very strict, and application of slags in protected areas (protected area for drinking water supply) is not possible.

With the exception of sulfate of ABS, which is slightly soluble in water, slags are insoluble in water. Heavy metals occur only in traces, and their concentrations are below limits set by the German Federal Drinking Water Regulation.

Conclusions:
Slag leachtes fulfil the quality criteria of the German Federal Drinking Water Regulation, they cannot pose a risk to human health.
Executive summary:

With the exception of sulfate in ABS, slags are insoluble. Slag leachates fulfil the quality criteria of the German Federal Drinking Water Regulation, and they pose no risk to human health (FEhS 2000 (Geiseler)).
