Vehicle:
no
Details on test solutions:
PREPARATION AND APPLICATION OF TEST SOLUTION (especially for difficult test substances)
In a sparging system, the test material was purged through test medium for different periods at a rate of approximately 20 mL er minute. The gas flow rate was assesseed using a soap- bubble flow meter. Air was simultaneoulsy purged to maintain acceptable levels of dissolved oxygen.
Test organisms (species):
Daphnia magna
Details on test organisms:
TEST ORGANISM
- Common name: Daphnia magna
- Source: in house laboratory culture with known history
young daphnia less than 24 hours old from parental daphnids older than 2 weeks of age
Test type:
static
Water media type:
freshwater
Limit test:
yes
Total exposure duration:
48 h
pH:
start of test pH 7.9 - 8.0
48 hrs - pH 7.8 - 8.0
Dissolved oxygen:
start of test 5.7 - 9.6
48 hr 6.0 -9.0
Nominal and measured concentrations:
nominal concentration - number of minutes of purging test material at 20 mL/min
measured - below limit except at 60 minutes purging resulting in a measured concentration of 83 mg/L
Details on test conditions:
TEST SYSTEM
- Test vessel:
- Type :closed
- Material, size, headspace, fill volume: 100 ml, all glass, filled up to rim
- Aeration: no
- No. of organisms per vessel: 5
- No. of vessels per concentration (replicates):4
- No. of vessels per vehicle control (replicates): 4

OTHER TEST CONDITIONS
- Photoperiod: 16 hours

Reference substance (positive control):
yes
Remarks:
K2Cr2O7
Duration:
48 h
Dose descriptor:
EC0
Effect conc.:
83 mg/L
Nominal / measured:
meas. (geom. mean)
Conc. based on:
test mat.
Basis for effect:
mobility
Key result
Duration:
48 h
Dose descriptor:
EC50
Effect conc.:
> 100 mg/L
Nominal / measured:
meas. (geom. mean)
Conc. based on:
test mat.
Basis for effect:
mobility
Details on results:
- Behavioural abnormalities: none

- Other biological observations: none
- Mortality of control:none
- Other adverse effects control:none
- Abnormal responses: none
Results with reference substance (positive control):
- Results with reference substance valid? yes
- Mortality: yes
- EC50/LC50: 48 hr - 0.51 mg/L
Validity criteria fulfilled:
yes
Remarks:
no daphnia immobilized in control, oxygen concentration above 5 mg/L at end of test, temperature and pH maintained, potassium dichromate results within acceptable range
Conclusions:
Under the conditions of the present test, the 48 hr EC50 for daphnia magna exposed to the test substance was > 83 mg/L. Since no effect was recorded at this level, it can be safely concluded that the 48 hr EC50 for the test substance is > 100 mg/L and the test substance can be classified as not harmful for crustaceans.
