Description of key information

From the assessment of the chemical structure it was established that the test substance, 1,3-Bis(aminomethyl)cyclohexane, would not have explosive properties.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Explosiveness:
non explosive

Additional information

The chemical structure of 1,3-BAC was assessed with reference to the screening criteria published in Appendix 6 of the United Nations "Recommendations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods, Manual of Tests and Criteria"; none of the chemical functional groups listed in the screening criteria occur in the structure of 1,3-BAC and on this basis it was concluded that 1,3-BAC will not possess explosive properties.

Justification for classification or non-classification

The test substance was assessed not to have explosive properties based on the chemical structure. On the basis of this assessment, there is no evidence to suggest classification as explosive either under the Dangerous Substances Directive (EU Directive 67/548/EEC) or the CLP regulation (EU Regulation 1272/2008).
