Additional information

1,1 –dichloroethene is soluble in water where ultimate biodegradation and hydrolysis are negligible. However, it has a low potential of adsorption onto sediment and it is highly volatile. Therefore 1,1 –dichloroethene is removed quickly from water by volatilization.

In the atmosphere, which is the main sink of 1,1 –dichloroethene, the substance is expected to be degraded by reaction with hydroxyl radicals with a half-life from 11 to 57 hours. Therefore, it is not persistent in this main compartment.

Due to its low adsorption potential to soil and its high volatilization profile, as well as the absence of direct application onto soil, the terrestrial compartment is of low concern for 1,1 –dichloroethene.

Moreover, 1,1-dichloroethene has a low potential for bioaccumulation.
