Additional information

There are two acute MTBE toxicity tests that were conducted under flow through test conditions. The organisms are sediment dwelling but neither of those tests include sediment. The marine amphipod Hyalella azteca seems to be more sensitive to MTBE than the Dipteran Chironomus tentans (ENSR, 1999e; 1999f). Since these tests were not carried out in presence of sediment, they can only be considered as an extension to the data set for the other freshwater invertebrates. The values are consistent with those reported for the other freshwater species.
