Additional information

Two studies on the toxicity of MTBE to microorganisms have been reported. Both were performed with Pseudomonas putida but they differ in duration and in the method used. Neither of the studies included analytical verification of the concentration of MTBE in the test culture. Since one of these studies was a limit test (Hüls AG, 1991e), the EC10 value of 710 mg/l obtained by Hüls AG (1991d) (and based on inhibition of cell multiplication during an 18 h exposure period) will be used in the assessment.
