Data platform availability banner - registered substances factsheets

Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

First-aid measures

Inhalation: Fresh air, rest. Obtain medical attention.

Skin contact:  Take off contaminated clothes; rinse the skin with water and soap. Obtain medical attention if irritation becomes apparent.

Eye contact: Immediately flush with copious amounts of water (remove contact lenses, provided that it can be done easily). Obtain medical attention.

Ingestion: Wash mouth and give two glasses of water to drink. Obtain medical attention.

Fire-fighting measures

Prevention: Keep away from sources of heat or naked flames.

Extinguish: Spray-jet of water. Avoid stirring up dust clouds. Under certain conditions, carbon dust/air mixtures can produce an explosive atmosphere.

Dangerous decomposition products: Carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide.

Personal protection: Standard fire-fighters personal protective equipment including self containing breathing apparatus.

Accidental release measures

Personal precautions: See Exposure controls / personal protection

Removal of product: Vacuum up spilled product and flush remaining product with plenty of water. To prevent dust formation spray with water prior to cleaning.

Handling and storage

Handling: Wet activated carbon depletes oxygen from air and, therefore, dangerously low levels of oxygen may be encountered. Whenever workers enter a vessel containing activated carbon, the vessel’s oxygen content should be determined and work procedures for potentially low oxygen areas be followed. Appropriate protective equipment should be worn. Avoid stirring up dust clouds. Keep dust clouds away from ignition sources.

Storage: Keep separated from oxidizing substances, unsaturated oils, metal salts, easily absorbable gases or vapours, sources of direct heat or naked flames and direct sun light. Dry storage (RH < 70%) in the original undamaged packaging. Storage below 50 °C. If stored outside original packaging first perform a proper risk analysis.
