Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The substance is of low toxicity and is poorly absorbed orally and dermally. Although physicochemical properties suggest that the substance may have a tendency to bioaccumulate in fatty tissues, it is so poorly absorbed that little substance is available to accumulate.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Bioaccumulation potential:
low bioaccumulation potential

Additional information

Based on its physicochemical properties, including structure, physical state, molecular weight, water solubility and octanol/water partition coefficient (Log Pow), Black-400 is predicted to be possibly bioaccumulative in fatty tissues but to have inherently low systemic bioavailability. The lack of toxic signs and macroscopic and microscopic findings in in vivo studies seem to indicate that the substance is of low toxicity and that oral and dermal absorption is poor and that although the substance may have a tendency to accumulate in fatty tissues, it is so poorly absorbed that little substance is available to accumulate.
