Additional information

12-hydroxystearic acid presents low solubility in water and is expected to be rapidly biodegraded in water and soil. As other unbranched fatty acids, it will be easily broken down by a range of microorganisms such as gram-positive or gram-negative bacteria, a number of fungi and yeasts as well as several types of algae (Fabig et al., 1989), regardless of the functional groups and chain length (Moucawi, 1981; Hita et al., 1996). Hence, it is not expected to persist in the aquatic or terrestrial environments.
