Description of key information

The partition coefficient of dibenzoyl peroxide was first estimated with EPISUITE software. The calculated log Kow value of dibenzoyl peroxide is 3.43.
Moreover, Log Kow of dibenzoyl peroxide was experimentally estimated at 3.46 according to Sangster (1994) databank. Nevertheless, no sufficient information are given in order to challenge the validity of this data. Finally and as a consequence, the partition coefficient of dibenzoyl peroxide was evaluated in a study performed in accordance with OECD testing guideline 117 and GLP requirements.The partition coefficient of dibenzoyl peroxide was 3.2. Validity criteria were fulfilled.

- The calculated n-octanol/water partition coefficient indicates that dibenzoyl peroxide is potentially bioaccumulable, with a log Kow = 3.43.

- Log Kow of dibenzoyl peroxide was also experimentally estimated at 3.46 according to Sangster (1994) databank. Nevertheless no information are given in order to challenge the validity of this result even if the estimated data of EPISUITE (chapter 4.7 (Partition coefficientt) in the record "U.S. E.P.A. / K2 SS / Octanol-Water Partition coefficient") which is 3.43 reinforces this conclusion.

- The partition coefficient of dibenzoyl peroxide was finally evaluated at 3.2 in a study performed in accordance with OECD testing guideline 117. This last result matches with the two others values presented in the two other study records of this endpoint.

As a consequence dibenzoyl peroxyde has a slight potential for bioaccumulation and adsorption.
