Description of key information

Toxicity to aquatic algae: 72-hr EC50 >1000 mg/L

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC10 or NOEC for freshwater algae:
530 mg/L

Additional information

In an OECD 201 guideline study, the 72 -hr EC50 for n-Vinylpyrrolidone (nVP) for aquatic algae was determined to be >1000 mg/L and the EC0 was determined to be 530 mg/L (BASF, 1989). Given these results, it can be said that nVP exhibits little to no toxicity to freshwater algae.
