Administrative data

Endpoint:
toxicity to soil microorganisms
Data waiving:
exposure considerations
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because direct and indirect exposure of the soil compartment is unlikely
Justification for type of information:
No experimental study on toxicity to soil microorganisms is available. A long-term toxicity test on soil microorganisms is not relevant according to column 2 of Annex X of REACH Regulation EC 1907/2006, as the risk assessment does not indicate the need to investigate further the effects of the substance on terrestrial organisms. The substance is readily biodegradable and not considered adsorpitve with a logKOW < 3 (log KOW = 1.95) and a logKOC < 3 (1.34 at 20°C). It will not be present in ionized form at environmentally relevant pH (4-9) as indicated by the Dissociation constand with pKa = 10.29 at 25°C. Since the substance is not specifically toxic towards aquatic organisms it falls into Soil Hazard Category 1. Risk to soil organisms exposed to the substance is acceptable based on the PNECsoil calculated using the Equilibrium Partitioning Method therefore, no specific testing is required for the toxicity of o-cresol to soil microorganisms.
